Given the complexity of the showery weather forecast and the downpour on the Saturday afternoon, it was always going to be a difficult call as to whether it would be best to run or to cancel. Fortunately, the decision to push ahead was vindicated when Sunday dawned bright and sunny with a good wind to dry the track out!

Nearly ninety riders arrived at the popular Wilberfoss venue to what is now a well established annual event to raise money for Meningitis Research in memory of little Louis Adam White. Riders and volunteers pitched in to bring the track up to riding standard and the event was ready to run by 11:00 with a total of five classes.

The Expert class was dominated by 19 year old Matt Stephenson from Huddersfield who would have taken a clean sweep were it not for a last lap stall in the third moto, from which he recovered to take a creditable third place. Rich Collins and Pete Holliday, who had passed him in that race, took second and third overall.

Another young rider, this time 17 year old Callum Cree from York took the honours in the 250 four stroke class with two first places. Bridlington’s Richard Corner, a staunch supporter and sponsor of the event, took second place and Wayne Treloar , having spent much of the morning teasing the track with a digger, took third podium spot.

There was a clean sweep in the 450 four stroke class with Easington’s Dean Gray romping home in all three motos, Simon Muir took second overall with two second place finishes and Craig Russell took the third place trophy. Rob Heilds, another of the younger riders at 19 years old, fought hard to win all three races in the 250 two stroke class, with Ian Pycock snatching second overall from Richard Corner, who rode in two classes.

Seventeen year old Ashley Crossley, on the other hand, took the clean sweep of the 125 class with such ease he would probably have showed well in the Expert class. Michael Hughes, at just 16 years old, travelled from Newcastle to take second place in his first season on 125s, while another 16 year old, this time from Wakefield, Darryl Tate, took the third spot overall.

The takings on the day were swelled enormously, thanks to the generosity of Dennis Winter (www.motocrossmotorbikes.com) who donated an impressive range of motocross gear and accessories for the raffle, to the trophy sponsor Rich Corner and to the numerous helpers who gave their time so freely to make “the Louis”, yet again, such a great success.
